How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big
1. The general theme of the book was to change your perception about failing and other "big" things people think you need to do to succeed. Scott Adams challenges the reader to change their perspective about success and the steps to get there.
2. I think this book connected a lot with what Professor Pryor talks a lot about. Entrepreneurs should fail most of the time, no one can get it right all of the time, especially in the beginning. This book also talked about how to work better and more efficiently. Scott Adams talks about the right times of the day to do specific work, and having a system is the best way to get things done. This is something that is useful to do the work in this class.
3. I would design an activity around creativity. I would have the student do two small creative assignments. One right when they wake up, and then the other later in the evening. I would then ask them to write a reflection about their experience and which one they thought they did better. I believe most students would do better in the morning, but it could also be a way for students who do not do well in the morning to find out what time of the day they work better creatively.
4. My big "aha" moment in this book came when Scott Adams talks about personal energy and how to keep it elevated. He talks a lot about that in his book. He says having a system you complete everyday increases personal energy and happiness rather than chasing after goals. He even reads the news for a jump in personal energy because he is constantly learning from the news which in turn makes him happy and increases his energy. That is a change in perspective for someone like me who hates reading the news.
ReplyDeleteGarrett, I read the same book as you did and had several “Aha” moments, with one being the same as yours regarding “personal energy.” One of the things that surprised me the most is that Scott Adams says you do not need passion to be successful, you need to have personal energy which I thought were the same. He says that it does not passion that you want. It is energy. He goes on to say that it does not matter what you are doing, only that you need more energy to do it better. I love your answer to question #3 because that is what this class is all about. You are experimenting about creatively but at the same time energy.
